Depth and pressure. The Haynesville shale, under northwestern Louisiana and northeastern Texas, lies at about 10,500 to 13,500 feet, far deeper than the Marcellus, and its gas wells are completed and tested at high pressures. In 2025 the region produced 14.9 billion cubic feet of gas a day.
