Camlock couplings
Cam and groove couplings connect and release hoses and pipes in seconds without tools: an adapter with a groove, a coupler with two cam arms, and a gasket between them.
A camlock, or cam and groove, coupling joins a grooved adapter to a coupler whose two cam arms swing down into the groove and pull the parts together onto a gasket, so hoses and pipes connect and release by hand. The eight standard types combine an adapter or coupler with a female thread, a male thread or a hose shank, plus a dust cap and a dust plug. We supply them in 316 stainless steel, brass, aluminum and polypropylene, to A-A-59326 in the United States and EN 14420-7 in Europe.
The eight types
| Type | One end | Other end |
|---|---|---|
| A | Adapter (grooved, male) | Female thread |
| B | Coupler (cam arms, female) | Male thread |
| C | Coupler | Hose shank |
| D | Coupler | Female thread |
| E | Adapter | Hose shank |
| F | Adapter | Male thread |
| DC | Dust cap: a coupler that closes an adapter | - |
| DP | Dust plug: an adapter that closes a coupler | - |
Any adapter fits any coupler of the same size and standard, whatever the type letter.
Materials
| Material | How it is made | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| 316 stainless steel | Investment cast | Chemicals and corrosive service |
| Brass | Forged or cast | Fuels, oils and water |
| Aluminum | Cast | Light general service, fuels and water |
| Polypropylene | Molded | Many chemicals at low pressure |
Cam arms, rings and pins are stainless steel on stainless couplers, and brass or stainless on the others. Gaskets are nitrile as standard, with EPDM, FKM, PTFE and PTFE-enveloped gaskets for other fluids.
Camlocks are made for liquids and dry bulk. A coupling that releases under compressed air or gas pressure can whip violently. Use connections rated and secured for gas service instead.
Threads and standards
Threaded types are made with NPT threads to ASME B1.20.1 as standard for US buyers, and with BSPT or BSPP threads to order. Couplings to A-A-59326, the US commercial item description that replaced MIL-C-27487, interchange with other A-A-59326 couplings of the same size; couplings to EN 14420-7, which replaced DIN 2828, interchange within that standard.

Frequently asked questions
Will your camlocks connect to the ones we already have?
Yes, if they follow the same standard. Couplings made to A-A-59326 interchange with other A-A-59326 couplings of the same size, whatever the maker. EN 14420-7 couplings interchange with each other. Tell us which standard your fleet uses.
What pressure is a camlock rated for?
It depends on size and material: small metal couplings carry more pressure than large ones, and polypropylene couplings much less than metal. The rating for each size and material is stated on the quotation. Never use camlocks on compressed air or gas lines unless they are rated and secured for it.
Which gasket should I order?
Nitrile (Buna-N) for water, oils and fuels; EPDM for water, steam and many chemicals but not oils; FKM for aromatic hydrocarbons and acids; PTFE or PTFE-enveloped for aggressive chemicals. State the fluid and we confirm it.
Can the cam arms be locked?
Yes. Couplers can be supplied with locking cam arms or safety pins and rings, so the arms cannot open by vibration or accident.
