Forged steel fittings to ASME B16.11
Small-bore forged fittings for instrument, drain, vent and process connections: socket weld and threaded, matched by class to the pipe schedule, with unions and branch outlets to the MSS standards.
ASME B16.11 covers forged steel fittings with socket weld and threaded ends: elbows, tees, crosses, couplings, caps, plugs and bushings for pipe up to NPS 4. Socket weld fittings come in Class 3000, 6000 and 9000 and threaded fittings in Class 2000, 3000 and 6000, each class matched to a pipe schedule so that the fitting is rated as the pipe it joins. We supply the full range with matching pipe unions to MSS SP-83 and branch outlets to MSS SP-97, in carbon, alloy and stainless steels.
Class and pipe schedule
| End | Class | Matching pipe wall |
|---|---|---|
| Socket weld | 3000 | Schedule 80 (XS) |
| Socket weld | 6000 | Schedule 160 |
| Socket weld | 9000 | XXS |
| Threaded | 2000 | Schedule 80 (XS) |
| Threaded | 3000 | Schedule 160 |
| Threaded | 6000 | XXS |
Correlation of class to pipe wall per ASME B16.11. Threads are NPT to ASME B1.20.1.

Materials
| Material | Use it for |
|---|---|
| ASTM A105 | General service, carbon steel |
| ASTM A350 LF2 | Low temperature service |
| ASTM A182 F11, F22, F5 | High temperature and hydrogen service |
| ASTM A182 F304, F316 and their L grades | Corrosive service |
| ASTM A182 F51 | Duplex stainless, chloride service |
| AISI 4130 | Small-bore connections on 4130 lines, to order |
A socket weld joint needs a gap of about 1/16 in (1.6 mm) between the pipe end and the bottom of the socket before welding, so the weld is not cracked by expansion. Fittings are made with full socket depth to ASME B16.11 to leave room for it.
Marking and documents
Each fitting is stamped with our mark, the material, class, size and heat number, and the heat is certified to EN 10204 3.1 with chemistry and mechanical results. PMI, hardness tests and third-party inspection can be added.

Frequently asked questions
Which class do I need for Schedule 80 pipe?
Class 3000 for socket weld fittings, or Class 2000 for threaded fittings. ASME B16.11 matches each class to a pipe schedule, so the fitting is as strong as the pipe it joins.
Are B16.11 fittings hydrostatically tested?
ASME B16.11 does not require a hydrostatic test of each fitting; it requires the fitting to be able to withstand the test of the pipe it is rated with. Hydrostatic or other tests can be added to the order.
What is a branch outlet fitting?
A forged outlet welded onto a run pipe to make a branch, in place of a tee. MSS SP-97 covers them with butt weld, socket weld and threaded outlet ends, integrally reinforced so no pad is needed.
Do you make B16.11 fittings in 4130?
Yes, to order, heat treated to the strength and hardness on your line list, for the small-bore connections on 4130 lines. Most B16.11 fittings are carbon, chrome-moly or stainless steel.
