Forged steel gate, globe and check valves
Small-bore valves forged from bar for process, utility and instrument lines at high pressure: compact, strong and made for socket weld, threaded, butt weld or flanged ends.
Forged steel valves are small-bore gate, globe and check valves whose bodies are forged rather than cast, for strength and soundness in high-pressure process and utility lines. API 602 and its equivalent ISO 15761 cover them from DN 8 to DN 100 (NPS 1/4 to 4), in Class 800 and 1500 with socket weld and threaded ends up to DN 65, and Class 150 to 1500 with flanged and butt weld ends. We supply gate, globe and lift check valves to these standards, and piston valves in the same sizes and classes, in carbon, alloy and stainless steels, tested to API 598.
Valve types
| Type | How it works | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Gate | A wedge rises clear of the bore or drops across it | Isolation, fully open or fully closed |
| Globe | A disc moves onto a seat across an S-shaped flow path | Throttling and frequent operation |
| Lift check | A disc or piston lifts with forward flow and drops back onto its seat | Preventing backflow |
| Piston | A piston slides through sealing rings to open and close the port | Isolation with a seal that can be renewed in place |
Standards, sizes and ends
| Ends | Sizes | Classes |
|---|---|---|
| Socket weld (ASME B16.11) | DN 8 to 65 | 800 and 1500 |
| Threaded NPT (ASME B1.20.1) | DN 8 to 65 | 800 and 1500 |
| Butt weld (ASME B16.25) | DN 15 to 100 | Class 150 to 1500 |
| Flanged (ASME B16.5) | DN 15 to 100 | Class 150 to 1500, except 800 |
Ranges as covered by API 602; ISO 15761 is equivalent. Testing to API 598.
Materials and trim
| Material | Use it for |
|---|---|
| ASTM A105 | General service, carbon steel |
| ASTM A350 LF2 | Low temperature service |
| ASTM A182 F11 and F22 | High temperature steam and hydrocarbon service |
| ASTM A182 F304 and F316 | Corrosive service |
Trims are 13% chromium stainless as standard, with hardfaced seats for high-temperature or erosive service and stainless trims for corrosive fluids. Bonnets are bolted, welded or pressure sealed depending on class and size, and gaskets are spiral wound or as your specification requires.
Every valve is shell tested and seat tested to API 598, and backseat tested where it has a backseat, and is marked with size, class, body material, trim and heat number. Body and bonnet materials are certified to EN 10204 3.1.

Frequently asked questions
Gate or globe?
A gate valve is for on and off service: fully open, it leaves a straight bore with little pressure loss. A globe valve throttles and shuts off well, at the cost of a higher pressure drop through its S-shaped flow path. Use gate valves for isolation and globe valves where flow is regulated.
What does Class 800 mean?
Class 800 is an intermediate rating used for small forged valves with socket weld and threaded ends, between Class 600 and Class 900. API 602 sets its pressure and temperature ratings.
What is trim?
The wetted working parts: stem, disc or wedge, and seat faces. Common trims are 13% chromium stainless, and hardfaced seats for higher temperatures and erosive service. State the trim on the order, or the service so we can propose it.
Can the check valve be installed vertically?
A lift check valve is installed horizontally unless it is made for vertical flow, with a spring or a design approved for that orientation. Tell us the orientation when ordering.
